On June 2, the Mardin 2nd High Criminal Court sentenced Mehmet Salih Gültekin, the former co-chair of the DEM Party’s Savur District Branch, to one year and six months in prison on charges of “organization propaganda.” The court cited Kurdish songs featured in Gültekin’s social media posts as grounds for the sentence. Gültekin’s lawyer, Nurullah Öner, stated that they found the decision to be contrary to the law and announced that they would file an appeal.
