Prisoner Ergül İnce was prosecuted on a charge of “bringing prohibited items into a penal institution or detention center” over a notebook, books, a radio, and other materials seized during a search at Bandırma No. 1 T-Type Closed Prison on 13 March 2020. On 10 July 2026, the Bandırma 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced İnce to one year in prison and ruled that the execution regime for repeat offenders would be applied to him for a second time. DEM Party Istanbul MP Cengiz Çiçek brought the treatment of notebooks and texts written by prisoners as criminal material to the agenda of Parliament and asked Justice Minister Akın Gürlek to explain the legal basis for the practice.
