The criminal complaint made by screenwriter Emre Kılınç at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office with the allegation that he was exposed to heavy torture during his custody by Anti-Terror Unit (TEM) officers was concluded with non-prosecution. Kılınç has been taken into custody on March 6, 2018 within an investigation.

Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Public Employee Crimes Bureau indicated that no suspect was identified within the investigation and recorded that the custody procedure was conducted in accordance with the law, that there is no sign of mistreatment; therefore issuing non-prosecution. Kılınç’s lawyer Nagehan Avçil explained, “We were prevented from meeting with my client for 40 hours straight. During this time, my client was tortured heavily and attempted to admit to crimes he didn’t commit. Despite our application to the investigation Prosecutor, the police officers applying the torture were not identified. No evidence was collected; the beating reports prepared did not reflect the truth and were not submitted to us.”
