Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Association (MKG) published the “September 2025 Report on Rights Violations against Women Journalists”, which revealed that pressure, censorship and trials against women journalists increased. According to the report, 4 women journalists were attacked, 5 women journalists were investigated and 3 journalists were put on trial in September. In addition, 3 journalists were prevented from following the news, while 4 digital media accounts were closed.
MKG stated that women journalists were targeted because of their profession and identity and emphasized that despite all the pressures, “they did not give up delivering the truth to the public”. “Today, journalism in Turkey is not just a profession; it has become a struggle for the truth,” the report said.
The detention of journalist Heval Arslan in Belgium was also included in the report, emphasizing that the repression against Kurdish women journalists has reached international dimensions. MKG stated that this situation once again shows the importance of international press solidarity.
The report also noted that access bans and account closures in digital media have become a new form of censorship. “Women journalists continue to resist with their pens despite all oppression, because the free press survives with the courage and conscience born from the pen of women,” MKG said.
