Diyarbakır 9th Assize Court had issued the release of Leyla Güven, who was recently elected as MP from the People’s Democratic Party (HDP). However, Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office objected to the release verdict by applying at a higher court, Diyarbakır 10th Assize Court. Therefore, another arrest warrant was issued against Güven before she was released from prison.
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Güven had been taken into custody on January 22nd with a house raid due to her work at the DTK, statements she made and her reactions against the Afrin Operation of Turkey. Diyarbakır 9th Assize Court had arrested Güven on January 31st after nine days in custody.
