Lawyer Nevzat Ercan, who opposed the beating of A.Y. as they were detained in Iskenderun on August 27, 2019 for allegedly fleeing from the police checkpoint, was prosecuted on charges of “resisting to prevent duty” and “misconduct of duty”. The lawyer faces an imprisonment sentence for up to 3 years within the indictment accepted by Hatay 4th Assize Court. The lawyer stated that the police were shown as witnesses and a lawsuit was filed against him and said that his client was beaten by being kept in handcuffs in the vehicle. Afterwards, he went to the scene and informed the police that he was a lawyer and said that he wanted the police to stop the beating, but the police insulted him and pushed him.
