The lawsuit filed at Ankara 5th Assize Court due to the killing and forced disappearance of 22 people in Kızıltepe district of Mardin between the years 1992 and 1996 was concluded with another example of impunity. The file, publicly known as “Kızıltepe JITEM Case,” was abated with time limitation in terms of the charges on disappearance under custody and extrajudicial executions. Nine defendants of the case included retired Colonel Hasan Atilla Uğur and former Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Eşref Hatipoğlu. Other defendants charged with illegal organisation management and membership were acquitted.
