International Press Institute (IPI) started a campaign “I Subscribe” to support independent journalists in Turkey. The campaign is supported by Pan-Europe Journalists Organization, European Center for Press and Media Freedom, PEN International and PEN Germany.
IPI Director Barbara Trifoni stated that she is not optimistic at all on the state of press freedom in Turkey. “Independent journalism is fighting for survival,” Trifoni said. The campaign’s aim was announced to support the very few independent newspapers in Turkey by providing international subscriptions to them.
