The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation after footage from hearings in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) case held on 15-16 October 2026 was shared on social media. Prosecutors alleged that unauthorized audio and video recordings were made in the courtroom of Istanbul 33rd High Criminal Court at the Marmara Penal Institutions Campus in Silivri. An ex officio investigation was launched under Article 286 of the Turkish Penal Code against people who shared the recordings on social media. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had also launched an investigation into Ekrem İmamoğlu, who presented his defense in the same case, on a charge of “publicly insulting public officials because of their duties” over remarks directed at members of the judiciary.
