At the Edirne Selimiye KYK Girls’ Dormitory, male staff members harassed students by waiting outside the dormitory until late at night, writing phone numbers on bunk beds, and entering students’ private areas. University students collected signatures and demanded that the dormitory administration take action. Instead of taking action against the harassment, the administration targeted the students who started the signature campaign and demanded a defense. When the harassment allegations became a topic of discussion on social media, the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into three university students on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and summoned the students for questioning. The Security Branch questioned whether the students had used the accounts that reported the harassment. The University Women’s Collective called on the administration to take responsibility and announced that they would continue their fight against harassment.
