An investigation was launched for “publicly disseminating misleading information” over social media posts claiming that a public prosecutor had used the phrase “it could not be understood what the suspect was high on” in a decision not to prosecute. Judicial sources said no such phrase appeared in a 2016 decision by the Gerede Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The original decision reportedly stated that no prosecution was warranted after it was determined that the substance seized from the suspect was not a narcotic and contained “thymol,” a compound found in thyme.
