Former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek filed a complaint against theater artist Orhan Aydın, who lost his daughter Eylem Şafak Aydın in the earthquake, 2.5 years later. Gökçek took legal action against Aydın for his social media posts directed at him, which included the statements, “You are heartless, ignorant, a disgrace in the swamp of backwardness, you will be held accountable.” Aydın announced that he had gone to the prosecutor’s office to give his statement and said that his reaction to the earthquake process, the rent-focused urban transformation in poor neighborhoods, and the targeting he was subjected to at his daughter’s wreckage had “hurt Gökçek’s feelings.” Aydın stated that he questioned how everyone would respond to the “murderer declaration” of someone who lost their child in the earthquake.
