An investigation was started against Cumhuriyet Daily reporter Seyhan Avşar with the allegation that she has “targeted a public officer for terrorist organizations” in the news article, entitled, “Ex-Con Sözcü Prosecutor.” In the statement she gave to the Prosecutor’s Office, the journalist said, “The fact that there was a finalized court verdict against a Prosecutor who prepared the Sözcü Daily indictment, which was followed closely by the public, and issued a verdict of non-prosecution for Nurettin Yıldız, who stated that six-year-olds can marry, is considered news anywhere in the world. With the news I reported, I protected the public right to information.”
