Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has started an investigation against journalist Can Ataklı due to “insulting the President” through his statements at the show, “Gün Başlıyor” [“The Day Starts”] on TELE 1 channel.
Ataklı had said:
“Look at this, nothing stays stable. There’s an earthquake in Iran. It’s almost the same place, right across the border. Look at the situation, and then the authorities say, ‘We spent so many times more for earthquake.’ What happened when you spent it? Who did you spend it for? It’s my money, am I not going to ask where my money went? It’s my money, I’m working so hard to earn it, and pay my taxes. It’s been like this for 40-50 years, did you do it? Let’s say they weren’t doing it for the last 40 years. It was the Atatürk Republic… They wouldn’t do it. What have you done then? You’ve been in power for 17 years but there’s still flood, houses still go down when there’s an earthquake. You couldn’t manage it…”
