The lawsuit filed against former employees of previously shut-down Cihan News Agency and Zaman Daily, as well as local journalists on charges of “illegal organization membership” and “aiding an illegal organization” was heard at the Antalya 2nd Assize Court. The court sentenced journalists Cihat Ünal, Ömer Özdemir and Serhat Şeftali to 6 years and 3 months of imprisonment due to “illegal organisation membership” and sentenced Olgun Matur and Osman Yakut to 3 years, 1 month and 15 days of imprisonment due to “aiding an illegal organisation without membership”. The court further issued the acquittal of journalists Ali Orhan, Hasan Yavaşlar, Özkan Mayda, Kenan Baş and Onur Fazıl Soydal of all charges.
