The Istanbul 59th Criminal Court of First Instance postponed the diploma case in which Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is being tried on charges of “forgery of official documents” to July 6 during a hearing held in Silivri on February 16, 2026. The court stated that it was awaiting the reasoned decision of the Istanbul 5th Administrative Court to be added to the case file before announcing its opinion. On January 23, the Administrative Court rejected İmamoğlu’s lawsuit against the revocation of his diploma. Imamoğlu was detained after his diploma was revoked by the university administration on March 18 and was arrested on March 23.
