Mehmet Yaşık, former mayor of Erentepe Municipality in Bulanık district of Muş, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison on charges of “being a member of an organization.” In the trial held at the Adana 11th Heavy Penal Court, Yaşık’s participation in funeral ceremonies, press statements, and Democratic Regions Party activities between 2011 and 2018 were presented as evidence. The court handed down the sentence despite the defense’s emphasis on political activities.
