Former Editor-In-Chief of the only Kurdish daily newspaper in Turkey Azadiya Welat, Ismail Çoban was arrested. Azadiya Welat has previously been shut down with an emergency decree. Çoban was detained on April 23 in Mersin due to a warrant within the investigation conducted against him by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Çoban was arrested on May 3, World Press Freedom Day, due to ‘illegal organization membership.’ There is a confidentiality order on Çoban’s file.
