Former AKP MP Hüseyin Kocabıyık was arrested by the court after being detained on charges of “insulting Erdoğan”. Kocabıyık said in a statement after the arrest decision, “You cannot silence me by putting me in prison. There are judges and prosecutors who do not recognize the Constitution. This is a badge for me.”
In an interview with Cumhuriyet newspaper on October 6, Kocabıyık described the vested interests within the AKP, saying, “The party distributes something to everyone. They had made my husband a governor, then they took him back because I objected.” On March 19, he also reacted to the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu with the words “Erdoğan made a coup against himself”. Kocabıyık was expelled from his party on March 22 after these statements.
