February human rights violations report by CHP MP Tanrıkulu

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu reported the data on human rights violations in February.

 

According to the data shared by Tanrıkulu, 12 journalists, writers and publishers were convicted in the lawsuits they were on trial last month; five journalists were detained and one journalist was arrested. The number of artists, politicians and writers arrested and detained was 15. Verdicts of conviction were issued against 48 academics in the lawsuits filed against them. 114 people were detained, 16 people were arrested and four people were convicted due to their social media posts. At least five events, press statements, meetings, demonstrations, festivals, theater plays or movie screenings were banned by the local administration. At least 103 events were prevented by the police, at least 225 people were detained and at least 11 people were arrested.
