The indictment prepared against journalist Fatih Altaylı on charges of “assassination and actual assault on the President” due to his remarks on a YouTube program demands at least 5 years in prison.
Journalist Furkan Karabay, who was arrested at the same time, has still not faced an indictment despite being in prison for 64 days.
Karabay was acquitted in three out of four previous cases on the same charge.
At least 18 journalists are currently in prison in Turkey, where judicial crackdown on journalists is on the rise.
