After Feyzi Erçin’s dismissal, appointed rector Melih Bulu banned the lectures of faculty member Ecmel Ayral, who had been lecturing at Boğaziçi University for 21 years. Ayral announced the decree on social media and wrote: “This morning I found out that I could no longer lecture the students of Boğaziçi University, whom I have served with pleasure, sincerity and pride for the last 21 years. My heart ached. I have always seen this service as a way to pay back my homeland and the young generation of my country, which could have no financial correspondence. I have always tried to present my efforts, information, experience and friends to them. I had thousands of students and many that I still keep in touch with and work with, and I know that I have a connection with all of them. I will not be able to meet my students, whom I was expecting to meet next year, but I inform you here – I am only a message away for anything that may come up in your mind. Believe me when I say that this vague, baseless decree is an award that I did not deserve much. I wish they didn’t hate the good, the true and the beautiful this much. Let it be so, we will still see better days kids, I know it. Looking forward to seeing you again.”
