The Dicle Fırat Journalists Association reported rights violations against journalists in July 2026. According to the report, police detained 12 journalists and courts arrested Fatma Sibel Gürcihan and Cem Küçük. The association reported that 27 journalists were in prison as of 4 August. In July, the trials of 33 journalists continued in 14 cases; investigations were opened against five journalists and a court case was filed against one journalist. DFG also said five websites were shut down, access was blocked to two news reports and 20 social media posts, and 11 publication bans were imposed. The association said journalists faced detention, arrest, investigations, trials and digital censorship because of their reporting, social media posts and professional activities.
