Istanbul 14th Assize Court sentenced Prof Dr Vedat Demir, who was previously dismissed from his position at Istanbul University Faculty of Communication with Statutory Decree No. 672, to 6 years and eight months of imprisonment due to “armed FETÖ/PDY illegal organisation membership.” Demir’s Whatsapp conversations, notes saved on his phone and his writings became the basis for the decree. The court board chairman at the final hearing of the lawsuit was judge Akın Gürlek, who lately signed debatable decrees.
