Murat Şahin had attempted an armed attack against journalist Can Dündar in front of Çağlayan Courthouse on May 6, 2016 and had injured reporter Yağız Şenkal. In the retrial of his prosecution, Şahin was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and the announcement of the verdict was deferred.
The attack has targeted Dündar, and NTV reporter Yağız Şenkal has been injured in the leg during the attack. In the first prosecution, two suspects have been acquitted and Şahin has been sentenced to a judicial fine due to “willful injury” and to 10 months of imprisonment due to “carrying arms without license.” Şenkal has objected to the initial decree.
