In the application of journalist Erdal İmrek, who was beaten while watching the police attack against those gathering in Taksim on the first anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, the Constitutional Court issued a violation of “freedom of expression and press freedom” as well as a violation of the “the ban against treatment against human dignity,” sentencing a moral compensation for 27,500 TL to be paid to Imrek. The investigation against the police officers, previously closed by the Prosecutor’s Office with a verdict of non-prosecution, will be opened again.
