In the indictment prepared on allegations of irregularities in the CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairmanship election, a lawsuit was filed against 10 people, including Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, arrested Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and arrested Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office examined the allegations of “vote rigging” at the congress held in October 2023 and demanded a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for the suspects under Article 112 of the Law on Political Parties. Özgür Çelik was elected with the support of Ekrem İmamoğlu. The investigation was launched 15 days before İmamoğlu was detained.
