Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office accepted the indictment prepared against CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and 25 party members. The defendants include CHP provincial and district executives, youth branch representatives and municipal council members. On January 31, 2025, on the day Ekrem İmamoğlu was summoned to testify, the indictment demands a prison sentence of up to 15 years and 6 months and a political ban for Çelik.
The indictment charges him with “resisting to prevent the execution of his duty”, “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”, “intentional injury” and “damaging public property”, while 5 police officers who were injured were included as complainants. The first hearing will be held on September 22, 2025.
