Ümit Erkol, the Ankara Provincial Chair of the CHP, was taken into custody on April 9, 2026, as part of the “cooperative investigation” centered in Izmir, and was subsequently arrested on April 12. The court issued an arrest warrant for Erkol and eight others on charges of “embezzlement” and “forgery of official documents.” Following the decision, police used pepper spray to disperse a march by party members who had gathered in Ankara.
