The trial of 26 people, including CHP Beykoz Mayor Alaattin Köseler, started at Istanbul 17th High Criminal Court. The hearing started with identification and defenses of the defendants were taken. The trial will continue tomorrow.
In the indictment, Köseler is listed as the “founder of the organization”, while Chief of Staff Veli Gümüş and staff member Metin Ülgey are listed as “managers”. Köseler was charged with “establishing an organization”, “bid rigging”, “qualified fraud” and “forgery of official documents” and was sentenced to 17 years and 6 months to 67 years and 3 months in prison.
Köseler and 22 others were detained on February 27 as part of the investigation, and the Ministry of Interior suspended Köseler from duty. On March 4, Köseler, Gümüş and 11 others were arrested, while 5 were released on judicial control. On April 15, Deputy Mayor Fidan Gül was also arrested.
