Actress manager Ayşe Barım, who was arrested on January 27 for allegedly directing the Gezi Park protests, appeared before the judge at Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court on charges of “aiding the attempt to overthrow the government”. Barım’s detention continued and the case was adjourned until October 1.
In his defense, Barım denied the charges, stating that he had only been to Gezi once and that the actors he represented were there on their own decision. Emphasizing that the indictment did not include evidence in his favor, Barım said that he was being held in pre-trial detention despite his severe health problems. Many well-known actors attended the trial as spectators.
Barım stated that he had no connection with Osman Kavala during Gezi and that he was accused because he fulfilled his duty as a manager. In his defense, he reiterated his demand for release, saying “I want my right to life back”.
