Access ban against news on those “lost” after being dismissed with Statutory Decrees

Ankara 1st Criminal Judicature of Peace brought an access ban on the news published on Euronews and Kronos news portals following the request of Atty. Neslihan Koçer. The news covered the fate of four people who were dismissed from public service with Statutory Decrees. The four people were missing for months and were later found out to have been arrested at Ankara Security Directorate the whole time.

One of the news banned includes a speech by Ankara Bar Association Human Rights Center Chairman Atty. Kerem Altıparmak. Four arrested defendants were stated to have been denied from meeting lawyers from Ankara Bar Association as well as their special family lawyers. On the other hand, there was media coverage on allegations that there were certain lawyers allowed to have seen the defendants, whereas no one knew who those lawyers were, or how they were hired.

Altıparmak reacted against the issue on his Twitter account and asked why a lawyer would want to ban access to news that didn’t even include her name and why a Criminal Judge of Peace would approve such a request without question.
