The proceeding of the academics continued at Istanbul 23rd, 27th and 29th Assize Courts with charges of ‘terrorist organization propaganda’ due to signing the petition, “We will not partake in this crime” of the Academics for Peace.

The proceedings of Assoc. Dr. Ayşen Candaş Bilgen, Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Aysimi Duman, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yıldız Silier, Assoc. Prof. Noemi Claude Matilde Levy, Asst. Prof. Dr. Seda Altuğ Bulut, Ph.D student Seval Gülen, Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Kadirbeyoğlu, retired Prof. Dr. Ayşe Neş’e Bilgin, retired Prof. Dr. Oya Köymen, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Nüket Eralp and Assoc. Prof. Meltem Toksöz from Boğaziçi University have started with the hearings. 236 scienists have stoff trial so far during the trialing period since 5 December 2017.

29th Assize Court board, under Chief Judge Mustafa Çakar, merged the lawsuits against two academics. The board under Chief Judge Ümit Kartlı, on the other hand, sent the file to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, requesting permission for trialing in accordance with Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code. All hearings were postponed.

1 year and three months of imprisonment sentences each were issued against 13 academics so far in the proceedings. The announcement of all sentences were deferred, except the sentence against Prof. Dr. Zübeyde Füsun Üstel from Galatasaray University.
