Mersin 7th Assize Court sentenced former Managing Editor of Azadiya Welat, Ismail Coban, to 7 years and six months of imprisonment due to “illegal organisation membership.” Until the day the newspaper was shut down with an emergency decree on October 29, 2016, the newspaper was the only daily newspaper in Kurdish.
