Conscientious objector Şendoğan Yazıcı, who was prosecuted on charges of violating the Military Criminal Code, was sentenced to 1 month and 20 days in prison by the Borçka Criminal Court of First Instance. Stating that there are 3 more ongoing lawsuits against him, Yazıcı said, “According to the Constitution, the state has to recognize the right to conscientious objection. My refusal to enlist in the military is not a crime, it is a right.”
