What happened?
Human Right Foundation founding member Şebnem Korur Fincancı, RSF Turkey representative Erol Önderoğlu and writer Ahmet Nesin were arrested on June 20 on the charges of “terrorist organization propaganda”, after participating the solidarity campaign with Özgür Gündem, assuming the editor in chief duty for a day. They were released after 10 days, but their trial continues.
The trial
Three civil disobedients distributed the news articles that are considered criminal (!?) in front of the courthouse on July 11 and denounced themselves, in solidarity with the three editors. A lawsuit was opened against them on the charge of “terrorist organization propaganda”. On the first hearing, the civil disobedients repeated that what is defined as “crime” in the indictment against Önderoğlu is in fact a journalistic activity. The hearing will resume on April 3.
First hearing: April 18, 2017, 09:40, Çağlayan Courthouse, 13. Assize Court
Next hearing: April 3, 11:10, Çağlayan Courthouse, 13. Assize Court
