What happened?
On January, 1128 academicians from 89 universities have asked for attention to the human rights violations and civilian deaths in Southeast and demanded that “the state should urgently abandon the deliberate policies of exile and massacre against all peoples of the region, especially Kurds.”
The Trial
After signing the petition titled “We will not be accomplices!”, the academicians were targetted by President Erdoğan and an investigation was opened. To show solidarity with the academicians, 46 people filed a criminal complaint about themselves to Kuşadası Office of Chief Public Prosecutor, stating “If demanding peace is a crime, we are partaking in this crime”. A lawsuit was filed against the partakers. Later on a lawsuit was opened against 6 more civil disobedients seperately. On the hearing of November 30, the two trials were joint. The hearing on January 18 was postponed due to the lack of some documents. The hearing on March 22 was postponed to July 5 as the court wanted to wait for the opinion of the Ministry of Justice on the main case at 13.Assize Court in İstanbul.
