Two executives of Eğitim Sen Branch No. 4 and an assistant principal were detained while the union officials were visiting Sait Güzelcan Secondary School in İzmir as part of union activities. According to the union, the school’s security guard checked the executives’ identification. The executives said they were union representatives and that the school administration knew about their visit. Although the assistant principal, who was also a union member, said the executives were guests of the school, the guard called the police. Police detained the two union executives and the assistant principal. At the police station, the union executives were fined and the two were released. Police referred the assistant principal to the prosecutor. Eğitim Sen İzmir Provincial Executive criticized the detentions and said union activities were being obstructed.
