GNAT Human Rights Monitoring Committee Deputy Chairman Sezgin Tanrıkulu prepared a report on the right violations in June. According to the data shared by Tanrıkulu, there were 1884 right violations concerning freedom of expression, 4 right violations concerning the freedom to organization and 280 right violations concerning the freedom of demonstration last month. The report further indicated that 86 right violations concerning torture were identified; whereas the actual number is far above this number.
According to the data presented in the report, three journalists were arrested, five journalists and writers were convicted in the lawsuits filed against them and 15 people were arrested due to incidents concerning freedom of expression within the one-month period. At least 246 people were taken into custody during press statements and protests.
