Taking Taksim under blockade, police units did not allow hundreds of people to march towards the Gezi Park this year as well. The marching group included relatives of those who lost their lives during the Gezi Park protests.
The march of the citizens, who gathered on the fifth anniversary of the protests with the call of the Taksim Solidarity, was cut by the police in front of the French Consulate. The protesters were not allowed to enter the square and the park. Reading the press statement on behalf of the Taksim Solidarity in front of the police barricade, architect Mücella Yapıcı reminded everyone that 36 people have lost their sight, thousands injured and tens lost their lives during the Gezi Park protests. “Darkness fades, Gezi remains,” Yapıcı stated.
