According to the July report of the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA), 22 journalists were tried in 32 hearings. 4 journalists were sentenced to a total of 14 years, 5 months and 10 days in prison. New investigations were opened against journalists, detentions and house arrests were ordered throughout the month. RTÜK imposed heavy fines on opposition channels. The Constitutional Court ruled that the arrest of journalist Fırat Can Arslan was a violation of rights. New lawsuits were filed against names such as Fatih Altaylı, Timur Soykan, Nedim Türfent and Ceylan Şahinli. Judicial and physical attacks against Şener Levent, LeMan editor-in-chief Aslan Özdemir and Engin Korkmaz drew attention.
