The second hearing of the lawsuit filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for his remarks against Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek was adjourned to July 16, 2025. In the trial held at the Marmara Prison courtroom in Silivri, the prosecutor’s office presented its final opinion and demanded a prison sentence of 2 years and 8 months to 7 years and 4 months and a political ban against İmamoğlu on charges of “insult”, “threat” and “targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism”. Imamoğlu, who wanted to be removed from the hall during the hearing, opposed this and continued his defense. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and party officials also watched the hearing.
