According to Bianet’s data, in 2021, 35 journalists were sentenced to a total of 92 years, 6 months and 24 days in prison due to “insulting”, “insulting the President”, “terrorist organization”, “knowingly aiding an organization”, “supplying and disclosing confidential documents membership”, “espionage”  in accordance with the Turkish Criminal Code (TCK) and “making terrorist organization propaganda” etc. in accordance with the regulations of the Anti-Terror Law (TMK). A total of 64 journalists were acquitted in the lawsuits filed against them, six of them of “insulting the President”. The number of convicted journalists who have “insulted” Erdogan in the last seven years has reached 70. In 2021, at least 41 journalists were detained. In Turkey, which has been one of the world’s “biggest prisons for journalists” for many years, “judicial measures” were issued in many judicial processes against journalists for the last three years, and as of 2021, it is now the turn of journalists who make street interviews to be arrested. At least 56 media representatives were attacked while on duty in 2021, one of the media workers, radio broadcaster Hazım Özsu, who lives in Bursa, was killed at the entrance of his house by an audience member who did not like his comments. During 2021, 975 news articles published on the internet news channel were banned from access with decrees by Criminal Judicatures of Peace or the Access Providers Association. “Personal rights” or “right to be forgotten” became the excuse of those who were mentioned in allegations of bribery, corruption, irregularity, favoritism, violence, sexual harassment and alike.
