Nuri Başkapan was detained after he claimed that he was exposed to insult and threat, posting voice recordings on social media that he claimed to be belonging to President Erdoğan’s nephew Ali Erdoğan. Başkapan was arrested by Istanbul 3rd Criminal Judicature of Peace due to “insulting the President.” Başkapan had wanted to send a written warning to Erdoğan from a notary in Istanbul on February 3, 2020 and say, “I do not recognise nor accept your Presidency” and had been detained after the officers in the notary have informed the police about it. Başkapan had also filed a criminal complaint at Istanbul Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on March 26 against the Justice and Development Party (AKP) congresses organised during the pandemic.
