The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against journalist Özgür Paksoy due to “insulting the President” through sharing a cartoon drawn by Brazilian cartoonist Carlos Latuff depicting assassinated Diyarbakır Bar Association Chairman Tahir Elçi on social media was held at Idil Criminal Court of First Instance. The journalist was sentenced to 11 months and 20 days of imprisonment and the announcement of the verdict was deferred.
