According to the 2021 statistics of the European Court of Human Rights, Turkey once again became the country with the highest number of cases before the European Court of Human Rights, after Russia. In 76 of the 78 applications concluded in 2021 regarding Turkey, it was ruled that at least one article of the European Convention on Human Rights was violated by Turkey. Of the 85 court decrees for violations of freedom of expression announced throughout 2021, 31 were delivered in cases filed against Turkey.
