Susma Platform organized a discourse in Çanakkale on “Censorship in the Arts on the axis of LGBTI+ Bans.” Moderated by Merve Diltemiz Mol, the event started with a documentary screening of “LGBTI in the State of Emergency” and continued with the discourse between arts writer Kültigin Kağan Akbulut and Başka Sinema movie coordinator Cenan Tüzel under the moderation of Seçil Epik from Susma Platform team.
In his speech, Akbulut indicated that the Pride March was banned in 2015 for the first time and that the ban is still ongoing. He further stated that the government effectively told the LGBTI movement, “exist but don’t be visible.” Tüzel, on the other hand, focused on pressures on especially the movie sector in her speech, summarizing the event bans that started with the German LGBTI Film Days in Ankara last year and spread across the country.
