The prosecution of journalist Murat Güreş continued at Gaziantep 9th Criminal Court of First Instance. The journalist is charged with “violation of privacy” due to covering the statements of businessman A.S.E., who testified as a confessor on the businessworld in Gaziantep after being detained within the “FETÖ” investigation.
Güreş’s lawyers indicated that the prosecution of the journalist, who reported the news in order to inform the public, is unlawful, saying, “What has been done is direct journalism, news reporting and journalism is not a crime.” The next hearing was scheduled to June 20, 2019 to start at 09:00.
A lawsuit has been filed against journalists Murat Güreş, Furkan Gökşen, retired journalist Metin Aybey, former journalist Yunus Emre Alıcı and lawyer Yusuf Subaşı due to “violation of privacy” on the related news with imprisonment claims for up to three years. Güreş and Gökşen have been detained last year within this scope and were released with a judicial measure of travel ban after the objection following their stay in prison for 13 days.
