People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Parliament Member Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu was detained with a police operation at the Parliament after he started a “justice watch” due to having been sentenced to imprisonment over a tweet and losing his seat at the Parliament. Gergerlioğlu was not allowed to even get dressed and was detained with sweatpants and slippers, which drew reactions on social media. Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that a new investigation was started against Gergerlioğlu and that the detainment happened so that he could testify within the investigation. The new investigation was based on the slogan, “Bij, Serok Apo” allegedly chanted as he was leaving the General Assembly. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) Chairman Mustafa Şentop made a written declaration on the detainment and repeated the slogan allegation in the Prosecutor investigation. The People’s Democratic Party (HDP), on the other hand, replied to the allegations with visuals and stated, “The lie of the Prosecutor didn’t even last an hour. Such a pity that the Parliamentary Chairman has referenced the same lie in his statement.”
