Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Deputy Chairman M. Hidayet Vahapoğlu declared historian Ayşe Hür as a “Turcophobe” after her Twitter post that states, “I love you” in Kurdish.
Hür quoted former People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, advising people who aren’t Kurdish to learn Kurdish as well. Joining the Kurdish tweet campaign, Hür wrote, “Ez ji te hez dikim…” [“I love you…”]. Former Motherland Party (ANAP) Chairwoman Nesrin Nas replied to Hür’s tweet with the post, “Şev baş hevala min Ayşe.” [“Good evening my friend Ayşe.”]. Hür replied, “Şevbaş rûmetgiran hevale min Nesrin!” [“Good evening my respectable friend Nesrin!”].
After the tweet interaction, Vahapoğlu targeted Hür. “I have made countless posts in English on this platform, I’ve never received such criticism from anyone. I’ve written a sentence in Kurdish for the first time, my identity was questioned, I was decided to be a Turcophobe,” Hür said.
